Rocktoberfest 2023 Lineup

The Deep Shallow Band logo

Rusty Stevens, Mike Vanhoy, Rob Conrad, Chip Cooper, Trey Walker, and Jackie Fallar are the incredible 6 musicians that make up The Deep Shallow Band. While some of the relationships and jam sessions go back 20+ years, the complete band has been together since early 2023. Together, The Deep Shallow Band has embarked on a journey of songwriting, rehearsing, and refining their distinct blend of “Southern soul rock and roll” influenced by the likes of the Allman Brothers Band and The Black Crowes. In support of their new release, “Copy and Paste,” they are enjoying every opportunity to boogie and share their music with enthusiastic crowds near and far. They are especially looking forward to their next show and whatever other adventures the future has in store. For more information and to read all about their history, check them out here!

Jason Scavone

With an undeniable gift for songwriting that illuminates the joyous, mundane and oftentimes bewildering experiences of life, North Carolina based singer, songwriter & producer Jason Scavone has developed a unique sound that transcends traditional genre barriers, delivering a unique musical thumbprint that seamlessly melds the best of indie, pop, americana & rock.

Highlights from Jason’s musical journey include serving as frontman/songwriter for The Noises 10, recording a duet of “My Repair” with Brandi Carlile, and performing with acts like Jason Isbell, Brandi Carlile, American Authors, Plain White T’s, Thirty Seconds To Mars, & Derek Trucks Band. His songs have been featured in TV shows like One Tree Hill, Criminal Minds, The City, commercials for Range Rover and Bojangles, as well as Indie films such as Poor Boy, and Valiant. Jason has worked in recording studios for almost 20 years alongside such notable producers as Eric Valentine, Al Sutton, Joe Pisapia, and Tom Schick.

Matone

Matone has been rocking the greater Charlotte area for at least a quarter of a century (maybe longer). Matone has an ever-evolving setlist, performing an eclectic mix of original music and covers…from 70 & 80’s rock to jam bands to Outlaw Country classics and everything in between. No matter your tastes, you are sure to find something for your listening enjoyment at a Matone show! The members of Matone are the greatest of friends, as evidenced in their performances.

At any given moment it’s not hard to catch them smiling or laughing with an infectious energy that passionately accompanies their sweet sounds, raucous rock or mind-melting melodies. Matone is dedicated to sharing their talents through their high caliber of musicianship, cultivating a fun atmosphere at their shows, and giving back to the community through Mayfest (a music festival/benefit for hospice that Matone has organized and hosted for over 20 years). Matone is grateful for their fans, who have been integral in keeping them relevant in the Charlotte music scene for decades! Pinkies Up!

David Childers and the Serpents

Born and raised in Mt. Holly, N.C., David Childers has written hundreds of songs, and recorded nearly 20 albums on various record labels. David and his band, The Serpents, have played extensively in N.C., Va., and Tenn. for more than 20 years. They have played numerous festivals such as MerleFest, Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion, AmericanaFest, Albino Skunk Fest, McMenamins Great Northwest Music Tour, Avetts at the Beach, Mountain Stage, and more.

Childers, who has collaborated with members of The Avett Brothers for years, joined the band on stage at the Greensboro (N.C.) Coliseum, to sing his song, “The Prettiest Thing,” which they have covered since 2011.

Josh Daniel

Josh Daniel is North Carolina singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist whose passion and enthusiasm are evident every time he takes the stage. Charting on Pollstar as the 8th top livestreaming artist of 2020, Daniel molds his influences into a unique sound that is entirely his own. Blending rock n roll with bluegrass, funk and soul music with a reggae backbeat, you never know which way he will lead the audience.

2022 brought the single “Still Standing” which features legendary guitarist Charlie Hunter and the full-length “Beautiful Mess” which showcases Daniel’s “solo” sound.

Raised on the vinyl of the 1970’s where Soul and Rock n Roll played equal parts, Josh Daniel’s repertoire is stunning, and during his year long “quarantine sessions” played nearly 1000 unique songs. Daniel’s compositions range from complex bluegrass instrumentals to full blown pop classics and has performed at many national events (MerleFest, FloydFest, Bristol Rhythm & Roots) and along the way has had the privilege of collaborating onstage with legendary musicians, John Cowan, Sam Bush, Larry Keel, Billy Strings.
